You may or may not be aware but after 13 years in existence Microsoft is finally calling an end to support of Windows XP. After April 8, 2014, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.
What does end of support mean to a dental practice?
If you have any computers still running Windows XP it means you should take action to potentially avoid being unable to keep up to date with new Dental software releases and more importantly to stay secure. Both SOE and Carestream have stated that they will continue to support users running Windows XP after April 14, 2014 but that they do advise customers to upgrade to a newer operating system ASAP and with the added caveat that future updates may require Windows updates that are not available on XP. You can delay but will have to change eventually and like anything else its better to get it planned sooner rather than later.
Please feel free to contact us using any of the methods below if you require assistance in migrating away from Windows XP in your dental practice.
The next Tip Tuesday will discuss a way of saving money on the migration.
